Gastro World ProjectAnatomy AIntroduction UnitIn this unit we will overview important reasons for taking this course and review the major systems and organs of the body and disorders associated with each.
EmbryologyIn this unit we will learn about how all humans develop from the genetic material in just one cell. Our unit projects will be a model of the female reproductive system and a presentation focused on new developments in reproductive technology.
Nervous SystemIn this unit we will begin by studying the basic cell of the nervous system - the neuron. Then, we will learn about the major structures of the brain and how neurons communicate with one another. Our unit projects will be the Neuron Project and the Big Brain Book. We will be dissecting an eye and a brain in order to better understand these structures.
Skeletal SystemIn this unit we will study the structure and function of the skeletal system as well as learning the names of all 206 bones in your body! Our unit project will be a life size model of the skeleton. We will be dissecting a bone in order to better understand its structure.

All in a Day's Work...Anatomy BMuscular SystemIn this unit we will learn how muscles contract and relax, as well as gain a detailed understanding of the microscopic structure of a muscle fiber. We will learn the names of 30 major muscles as well. Our unit project will be a muscle fiber model.
Cardiovascular SystemIn this unit we will be learning about the path of blood flow through the body and the heart. At the end of the unit you will know have a detailed knowledge of the structures that help your heart do its job. Our unit project will be a model of the heart. We will be dissecting a heart in order to better understand its structure.
Digestive SystemIn this unit we will learn the ins and outs of the digestive system. Our unit project will be building Gastro World, a theme park with a focus on digestion. We will be dissecting a fetal pig in order to review all of the systems we have learned so far and understanding the digestive system better.
Immune SystemIn this unit we will be learning about the battle that is being waged by your body against the pathogens it encounters on a daily basis. We will do a detailed study of several diseases as a part of our learning. Our unit project will be a pamphlet and a doctor patient skit in which you and a partner demonstrate your knowledge of a specific disease and how it affects the body. We will watch the movie Outbreak
Student Led LessonsIn this unit you will work with a partner or individually to teach a lesson on a system we did not have time to cover in class this year. Your lesson must include a quiz, which you will grade and hand back to your classmates.
